Staircase Design; Make the Most of The Property
At Pear Stairs we try to think that there’s no limit to what can be accomplished with a staircase but the reality is that stairs are entirely reliant on the property they accompany.
This obviously means they must fit inside the given space but it also means that the design should complement the architecture of the building.
That’s not to say you can’t put an ultra-modern floating glass staircase in a 17th century stone cottage, it just might not fit with the established interior design.
Old Chapel Staircase
As a prime example, this staircase suits the property perfectly. Installed in an old chapel, these stairs had the prerequisite of highlighting the existing stained-glass window.
To do this the stairs were designed in a quarter landing fashion that avoids obstructing the feature, while a section of handrail and spindles keeps the space safe and usable.
The result is that the stairs are bathed in a glorious multitude of colours from the window, providing a warm and welcoming glow to the room.
Oak Balustrade and Bespoke Stair Gate
When a room is well-lit, oak is an excellent choice for a staircase because it sings in natural light. In line with that thinking, this staircase features gorgeous white oak balustrading and newel posts that have been capped with ornate acorn caps.
As an additional feature, the joiner for this project created a bespoke stairgate with excess stop chamfered spindles. This neat design seamlessly fits in with the staircase and keeps one rather unimpressed pooch downstairs.
