Staircase Design Idea; A Luxurious Design with a Compact Size

Staircase Design Idea; A Luxurious Design with a Compact Size

You do not need a large foyer or atrium to have a refined and luxurious staircase in your property. This bespoke mixed material staircase has made for a beautiful home feature while having a relatively compact footprint. At the bottom of the stairs are dual oak feature steps that complement the wooden flooring in the property perfectly. Selecting materials that suit the property is a vital part of creating a staircase that elevates the interior design. The feature steps are a D-end design with a bullnose on top. Both these steps have a round nosing on the tread for a subtle ‘lip’. The unusual thing about these feature steps is that they do not return inwards on a newel post. This is because the client has opted for a unique design supported by a reinforced string housing at the bottom, rather than a design that relies upon the newels. Further up the stairs, newel posts and newel bases provide more structural support.

Landing Turn or Winder Turn? Design Your Staircase for Your Property

Another unusual aspect of this staircase is the combination of a landing and a winder turn. While a double winder turn would have been more efficient on space, this design prevents the window from being obscured by the staircase; a smart choice for keeping the property bright and welcoming. The balustrade for this staircase was sourced elsewhere. The posts and handrails came from Dave Dalby Woodturnings’ in West Yorkshire and the spindles were supplied by ‘Trade Stair Parts’ that then had a white aluminium powder coat added by an independent company. Despite the parts coming from different companies, the client has done well to find parts and materials that match aesthetically.

Must-See Under Stair Storage Idea

An ingenious addition to this staircase is a slide out under stair storage drawer. This smart storage idea provides a handy pull-out shelving unit for shoes. This is not only an efficient use of space, but it also makes sense in the property. The stairs mark a transition from hard wooden floors to a carpeted upstairs, this is where you would want to be taking your shoes off and now there is a convenient place for them nearby.
