Lark House on Grand Designs
This staircase was created for a bright and contemporary space and so was designed in a manner that minimises shadows and dark areas. In early 2019, this staircase featured in the Grand Designs magazine for a property where the brief was “something modern and easy to live with.” Thanks to intelligent design choices, the property met this goal with help from this stylish yet functional staircase.
Modern Staircase Style
Semi-open risers and glass panel balustrading allows natural light to flow through the space, especially useful as the stairs were installed next to a large window. Keeping the look bright and contemporary, these stairs also feature flush handrails that connect to newel posts without the need for newel caps. This minor design feature creates a minimalist profile, enhancing the subtle qualities of the oak treads, stringers, newel posts and handrails. Contributing to the minimalist design, the glass is grooved into the string rather than going into the baserail. This provides an uncomplicated and uniform aesthetic that complements this contemporary home.
Meeting The Brief; Staircase Design
Happy with the results, the client said: “The stair was assembled on site by the builder who took a little while to work out how all the components went together but they were pleased with the results once finished and sealed. In our view the stair afforded good value for money for an open tread glass balustraded stair and have specified this product again with similarly good result.”
