Don't get caught out by the Christmas rush

Where did summer go? Suddenly the autumn equinox has been and gone, the kids are back at school, there’s a bit of a nip in the air and the days are starting to get shorter. Time, then, to think about getting the house ready for winter. Now, I’m a bit reluctant to bring up the dreaded subject of Christmas, but if you’re intending to spruce up your home ready to impress the relatives then you really need to start planning as early as possible. |

At Pear Stairs we always see a surge in sales during November and December as home owners decide to revamp their hallway in time for the festive season, but inevitably some will be left disappointed if they leave it till the last minute. It really does pay to plan ahead – especially if the stairs have to fit an awkwardly shaped space, or you want to use an unusual timber such as walnut or idigbo. While we can normally make a standard straight flight of stairs in as little as 7-10 days after receipt of a signed drawing, this may take longer during busy periods. And more elaborate options such as curved or cut-string staircases can take several weeks, so make sure you allow plenty of time. |

Don’t forget the installation process either – carpenters and joiners are likely to be extra busy at this time of year, and will need to be booked well in advance. Not only that, but you’ll probably want to redecorate the hallway afterwards, and that’s definitely not a job to leave until Christmas Eve. The festive period is stressful enough at the best of times, without the added worry of wondering whether the staircase will be finished before your guests arrive! |
