914. Cook-Martin Paddle Staircase
Rossendale
Lancashire
Spacesaver stairs, also known as paddle stairs have a much smaller footprint thanks to seperate treads for left and right feet that overlap. This makes them perfect for situations such as the one our client had where an attic needed to be reached yet there is not space for a full flight. Made to match the straight flight below it, this staircase is made from yellow pine with accompanying Georgian spindles and newel posts. Complementing the carpeted design of the other staircase, these paddle steps have carpet inserts for a distinct uniform aesthetic. The closed strings are 42mm thick as are the treads. OUR CUSTOMER SAID:
My project was to replace 2 existing staircases serving first floor and attic in our stone terrace cottage. Google and you find so many potential suppliers but I knew I needed some careful design to overcome some potential problems.
Contact with Pear Stairs convinced me they understood the issues and designer Dave was able to offer solutions.
When I received the stairs the workmanship and finish was really good so I was able to stain with minimal preparation. The stairs fitted really well and I was happy that there was no skimping on finishing trim in the package from Pear Stairs.
A quick note about staining. I tried all sorts with disappointing results - until I came across Osmo wood wax which gave consistent colouring whilst still highlighting the grain of the Southern Yellow Pine of the stairs; easy to apply too.
