Save time with our pre-primed stair parts

At Pear Stairs we can supply all our components in white-primed softwood if required, saving you time, money and effort. No waiting all day for whiffy oil-based primer to dry, as this unpleasant job has already been done for you – just add two coats of good quality gloss or semi-gloss paint for a premium look that won’t cost the earth. In our experience this works particularly well with twist and fluted spindles, as a painted finish helps to bring out the detail and beauty of the turned timber.

Painting is an opportunity to express yourself and add a personal touch. Many people decorate only certain parts of the stairs, such as the spindles and newels, and choose a natural timber handrail and newel caps for contrast. Another popular approach is to use wood stain for the treads and handrail and paint everything else white. Alternatively, you might decide to decorate the whole lot for maximum effect.

When it comes to colour, almost all home owners choose white or cream paint, but there is nothing to stop you using another shade – black and white themed stairs, for example, are becoming popular in the States at the moment.

If you want to make a feature out of the stair carpet, or the treads, try painting all the surrounding trim in an identical colour, so that the steps stand out in contrast; or match up the colour of the handrail and treads for a neatly cohesive look.
